The popular game “Pokemon Go” might be blocked by the government if proved violate the rules and endanger the security of cyberspace. Is it right that this augmented reality game is dangerous?

If the question was submitted to the cyber security analysts, Pratama Persadha, the answer is no. Because in his opinion, there are no things which makes Pokemon Go should be blocked. Both in the UU ITE or minister regulation. So, there are no regulations that were broke.

“The problem of blocking is actually has a legal umbrella, the minister regulation 19, 2014. However, these rules only regulate the problematic sites with radicalism content, pornography and racial intolerance. So it needs to be seen which one that were violated by Pokemon Go in here,” he explained.

UU ITE even does not regulate about authority of blocking at all. Minister regulation 19 2014 for blocking this negative sites became the legal basis. However, added by Pratama, the government cannot easy to block applications without seeing the technical aspects.

“It had raised an anxiety because there is a security holes in Pokemon Go iOS version, but then it was already fixed by the developer. Even this is not could be the reason for the government to block the Pokemon Go in the country,” explained by chairman of cyber security research institute CISSReC.

The news about the blocking for Pokemon Go was ejected from the head of the central Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Ismail Cawidu. In a statement, he said that the government will not hesitate to block Pokemon Go if indicated the hazardous potential.

“If the Pokemon Go app content violates the rules, surely we will process to be blocked through the handling panel of illegal content,” he said recently, in Jakarta.

Pokemon Go has actually just been officially released in few countries, including United States, Australia and New Zealand. Outside those countries, obviously Pokemon Go has been widely used, especially through the android by installing the APK (Android Package Kit) outside of the Google Play Store. APK file itself is a file that is used for installing the applications and games in Android.

It should be wary of the possibility the irresponsible party attached malware and viruses on APK file of Pokemon Go outside the Play Store. The victims who have experienced this are quite a lot. Especially since many people do not wait for the official version in their respective countries.

“There is a risk of installing Pokemon Go through APK in the outside of Play Store. To be safe and secure, we must wait patiently to install the application until its official release in the country, or if the APK file that is installed is free of malware or virus. Also the most important, create a new Gmail account specifically to play Pokemon Go,” he said.

For note, just within one week of release in three countries, Pokemon Go has been downloaded over 10 million times in the Google Play Store. Not including who install Pokemon Go through the APK or iOS. This phenomenon help lifted shares of Nintendo, which since last July 9 trades has increased more than 56%.
